            The Reign of King Stephen

1140 Sir John Vernon (of Norman decent) in occupation of Woodhouse.

1156 Church founded around this date.

1220 Stone church roofed with wooden shingles.

1450 Sir Richard Vernon and Isabella Vernon - Isabella married Peter Stantor; Woodhouse was given as a dower house.

1570 Henry Ludlow (father of the General Edmund Ludlow) sold Woodhouse to the Arundell family

1643 May 1st First battle of Woodhouse, taken by the Parliamentary forces

            The English Civil Wars

1644 July 9th Second battle of Woodhouse, the old mansion is returned, in a successful fight, to the Royalist cause.

1647 William Arundel has 213 of his estates confiscated for being a recusant and is accused of delinquency.

1648 Woodhouse Castle confiscated and let to an Edward Franclin.

1653 Lord William Arundel dies.

1716 Manor of Horningsham is sold to Fredrick Thynne Esq. by Mary Arundel the great grand daughter of William.
